I told you I was seeing cute frogs everywhere. I just added this panel to the store. It is so cute and would make a little boy or girl quilt depending on what you put with it.

It is called "Before the Kiss" and there are 2 coordinating fabrics.

Spring Cleaning?

Is it Spring or is my timer off? I have been trying for two weeks to get my sewing moved to another room and my storage moved to where my sewing was. AAAHHH what a mess. No time for sewing, I can't get my printer to work, We just moved at work and I feel way behind there also. (I do love my new office with a window, much better than my old cubicle where I could go for days without seeing the sun.)
I wish someone would clean for me but do you think I have help like this:

NO!!! This is me and the end doesn't seem to be insight.

Done with One and started Another

Well I finished the top of the quilt of Valor this last week and spent this morning quilting it so all that is left is the binding. I feel like a mad possesed woman, I can't sleep till I get done. Some projects have a life of their own and insist on being finished before it will let me move on. I look like a mad woman and I would take a picture for you to see but then you would never come back.

We had a new addition to the family a couple of weeks ago. Maddox was 7lbs 9oz and 21 inches long. You would think since it takes 9 months that I would have had plenty of time to make a baby quilt but nooooooooo I had to wait till it was upon me to get me in gear. Well I bought the cutest frog fabric kit that had a stuffed animal. Do you see Mr. Lean Beans? He is helping me put together a drunkards path with the frog fabric. So cute, I hated to cut it but it only hurt a little and will be all well when I get it done.

Frogs are on my mind, I added some "Before the Kiss" fabric to the store. So cute, I am trying to decide what I can make with it. Maybe you have a suggestion.

Quilt of Valor

This is a little something I started before Christmas and couldn't seem to find the time to get it finished. I wanted to make a quilt for a local boy who just lost his legs and an arm in Afghanistan. So I decided today was the day. Well if I hadn't done 20 of the star points wrong, you might be viewing a completed top. I took them out and redid them, there was no way around it. I wanted it to be perfect.

This is the pile I started with this morning.

If you look close you can see my error. I just hate when I do that.

This is the finished stack of blocks. That I will have to put together another day.

My Favorite Project for 2011

This was my favorite project for last year. I started it during my New Years vacation and I finished it about March. I gave it away which was really hard because it turned out so nice. I don't usually make the same pattern twice but this one is one I am planning on making again. It is called Pavers by Eagles Nest Designs.

Any of the patterns by Barb Gaddy or by Jean DaBell are in pdf format and I can email them to you, just put free shipping in the voucher box and make sure to include an email address and voila it will be in your in box the very next day. I love pdf patterns. I can search and find them when I need them. I can organize them. I don't have as much paper to keep track of, it is the green thing to do. It is also the perfect way to go because it is so easy to do. Let me know what you think, if you like pdf or like getting a paper pattern. And along those lines, does any one out there know how to attach a pdf to a web page so that it can be given away free? I have been trying but haven't been successful yet.

I Spy Bags

Have you ever seen these I Spy Bags? They are so cute and fun to make. I have been making these for the last week for Christmas presents, so shhhhhhhhhh it is a secret. I thought I would share some photos and then include the instructions. That way you can copy the instructions if you like with out the hassle of the pictures. Finding things to put in them was like a month long treasure hunt. I found ball beads,dice beads, and letter beads(I spelled their name in each bag), flower, heart and star buttons, bug buttons and cowboy hats. Anything you like. Instead of pellets I have seen people use rice. Your imagination is the limit.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
· Fleece fabric, Poly pellets, Funnel, Small novelty buttons and items, Clear vinyl, Sewing machine, Thread, Scissors, Pins, Tape measure .
1. Cut the fleece fabric to the dimensions desired. For example, if an 8-inch by 8-inch bag is desired, cut an 18-inch by 9-inch piece of fabric. I cut 2- 6 inch circles, I like the look of the round ones.
2. Fold the fabric in half length-wise and place it folded onto a work surface. Cut a 3-inch square in the center of the fabric for a square one. Or cut a 3-inch circle in the center of the round one.
3. Cut a piece of clear vinyl the size of your square or circle. Lay the vinyl on the wrong side of the square hole or the round hole. Pin the vinyl to the fabric several inches away from the intended sewing line.
4. Stitch around window opening, sewing the vinyl and fabric together. Trim the vinyl seam allowance to 1/2 inch outside the seam. Or I just leave the vinyl all the way to the edge because I feel it gives the cut side a little more stability.
5. Place the right sides of the fabric together. Sew around the edges and leave a 3-inch opening at the top to enable turning. Turn the fabric right side out. You now have an empty I Spy bag with an opening.
6. Select approximately 50 novelty items and buttons to place inside the I Spy bag. Place the items inside the bag. You can make note of the items you place in the bag.
7. Place a funnel into the opening and pour the poly pellets into the bag. Fill the bag so that it is full, yet the items can be moved and shifted around within the bag. Top stitch around all the edges to finish the bag and close the opening.
8 Make a list of most of the items placed in the bag. It isn't necessary to list all of the items; however, most of them should be listed to assist in finding them. Enter the list into a word processing program, print it out onto card stock and consider covering it with contact paper.

Christmas traditions

I hang this quilt on my living room wall for Christmas' but I have to admit I didn't make it. I bought it at the thrift store. I just hated to see such a cute quilt not have a home. I love it and I think the grand kids do too.

It was a lousy day at work. My husband banished me to my sewing room. He didn't want to deal with a cranky wife. I have Christmas presents I want and need to make. Just don't know where to start. I guess it doesn't make much difference. I just need to start and not get side tracked doing all the fun projects I see else where. So off to sew have a good week.

New Baby Dress

Here is a picture of the blessing dress I just made for my youngest daughters baby. Next Sunday is the big day. I am getting faster, it only took me 3 hours to make it and I even put trim to match the daisy's at the top of dress around the top of a pair of socks. I cut the dress so the edge on the eyelet is the hem of the dress and the sleeve so I dont have to hem either one of them, how lazy is that? I also lined it because it is cold and eyelet isn't the warmest fabric. My daughter likes this style, it is a remake of an old pattern. Simplicity 2629. It turns out rather cute. Lillie's Classic Quilts in Independence Kansas

If you are ever in Kansas you should stop in at Lillie's Classic Quilts. Don't you just love a good local quilt store? My daughter in law took me to two while we were visiting for Thanksgiving. The first one was very small but I didn't have my camera but I made sure to bring it when we went to this one. They live in Oklahoma and I thought she was taking me to a shop called Kansas but it turns out she was taking me to Kansas to this shop. We had a lot of fun exploring all the unique things in their store. Here are a few of the pictures I took. I had to laugh, when I asked to take pictures they thought I was going to charge them for advertising. Nope its free just because......

Scenic Pictures of our Vacation

The following are some of the pictures I took on our 2 week vacation. We went to visit my mother in Louisiana and our oldest son in Oklahoma. This first picture was taken in southern Utah in the St. George area.

This next picture was taken while we traveled across the top of New Mexico.

This picture was taken when we crossed the Historic Navajo Bridge over the Colorado River.

Texas looks a little dry even for this time of the year.

The next 2 pictures are of Chimney Rock in Nebraska.

This last picture is of the Little Big Horn in Wyoming where Custards last stand happened.

We had a great time but I sure am glad to be home. I will post some quilting related pictures later.

Jean Skirts- DIY

I saw something about making a jean skirt out of old jeans awhile ago and really wanted to try it. I have made two and they were easy as 1-2-3 after I figured out how to do it. I have a ton more ideas on ways to do them that I just want to make some more. Plus, my daughter has a bunch of old jeans... too bad she can not wear jean skirts everyday!! Oh, well they will have to wait as Christmas is just around the corner and I am not done with my Christmas projects yet....

Drunkards Path Update

Pot Holder... mess

So, if it is easy, I am going to make a mess out of it. (I started this before the cleaning project in case you where wondering.. you can even see it in the picture).

This potholder looked cute and easy... well cute.. easy maybe for some (everyone but me).

I started with some fat quarters, did some cutting, some sewing, some machine quilting and ....

this is the mess I have.... it's the wrong size, it's too thick, its actually cuter than I thought, but it is a horrible disaster... what a disappointment...

Drunkards Path

My daughter Jennifer pieced this quilt top and gave it to me about a year ago along with several other quilts for me to quilt. I hadn't done it because it still needed borders. Well she wanted it for a Christmas present, so I put borders on it this last weekend and I quilted it after I came home this evening. I am tired but the good part is the machine cooperated and I didn't have to take any stitches out. It is just a simple wandering stitch because of the limitations of the sewing machine. I am done, done, done, yea, yea, yea!!!!!! Now on to my projects.

Look what I got from Button Mad . Aren't they the cutiest lady bugs. They have some awesome buttons and other things also.

Christmas is coming and I have made a list, well a partial one anyway and have ordered some of the items on that list but I still have no clue what to do for some people on my list. How about you? I don't want to spend my time stressing over making homemade for everyone but to buy is expensive. Maybe I should do the bah hum bug and give nothing. I threaten but I just can't bring myself not to give presents to the grand kids. So back to work, an idea will come, soon I hope. What ideas do you have for the little ones under 8? This month is going to go by quickly. On your mark get set go!!

Fall- Pumpkin Table runner

Fall is almost over and Halloween has come and gone all of which makes me sad. Where has the year gone? Were does time go???

We plant pumpkins every year for the kids and some years we get a good harvest and others... not so exciting. This year we got 12 pumpkins from 4 plants!!! WOOO HOOO! Some of the bigger ones are still green... but you can still crave them.

We placed faces like potato heads in the smaller ones and craved the bigger ones! We had fun!

A few years ago I saw a pumpkin table runner from The Green Fairy Quilts that was way cute and seemed easy... so I made one. A present for a friend's birthday this month. It went together fast..

I cheated--- she sewed different orange pieces together and I just happened to have an orange piece that had lines... so I skipped that step.

I am horrible at quilting and I really did not want to mess this up so I made this paper template in excel.... and I am so proud of myself because it work for me!!! and looks cool... at least I thought it did. It was so easy to follow the template I am going to do this again.

Pillow

Another gift... this time a pillow... This one was a killer... it looked so cute and easy and I have been wanting to make it for a really long time, just never did and I needed a really nice thank you for a lady who watched my daughter for three months.. it was a mess but mostly because my sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer and she was watching the baby so my wonderful neighbor helped us out and they were so very good to her. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

Anyway, this little project is a combination of several different things... sticthing, buttons, machine quilting, applique... and I have to admit it took longer than I wanted it to, but it turned out oh so cute!! it has its flaws, but I did pick out several of the really big ones... anyway, I might have to make another one, I like it so much. It turned out to be the size of a regular pillow. Had I know I would have just boughten a pillow and put in it instead of making the pillow and stuffing it with polyfil....

More bags, but not any Halloween Bags... went to store to buy fabric and the line was longer than long and with three kids who have been officially uninvited to go shopping in tow... I was done waiting and put the fabric back and walked out of the store empty handed.....

and it was not quite tall enough so I made another the green one which is taller. I love them. It is corduroy, they turned out nice and now I do not want to use.. my daughter the bag lady wants them real bad... so the bag craze is still going strong here.

using my memories to make sticthing patterns

You have to try this... it is so easy to make your own stitching patterns using resources like digital memories.... what fun.

Using the fonts from the scrap booking programs like my memories digital (to get more for your money) and various pictures (depending some of the picture from the digital program would work as well) you can make your own stitching patterns. Here are two that I have been working on.... I have a couple more but they are not done. And well the one here is a work in progress--- notice how lazy I am.. I should be putting tape around the edges so that they do not fray.

This one I had a picture of a family and I added another kid and then used some of the fonts to write the letters below..... the possibilities are endless. I did have to do some hand drawing but it was okay.

This is just one that is finished stitching -- If I was to do this one again I would change the font size... it looked good until I tried to stitch it....

This is also a sneak peak at a quilt I am making for my daughter's birthday.... I have till April and hopefully I will get it done.

"My Memories Suite" is a digital scrap booking program which allows you to scrap faster than cutting and gluing everything into an album. It is easy to use and very straight forward. I enjoyed making a birth announcement and a scrapbook page, which were both very simple and took very little time. Depending on how you embellish your pages will determine how much time it will take. The pages made with this software can be saved as jpeg files which allows you to email your creations to your family and friends, or go have them printed. You can make calendars, scrapbook layouts, photo books, cards, videos, you name it! Just let your imagination do the driving.

Sassy Skirt

A few months back I was making sassy skirts. I lent the pattern to a co-worker and she made a skirt for her youngest daughter (the dark one) and her 9 year old made a skirt (the green one) and won best of show at the county fair. I have been wanting to share these pictures with you for awhile. I think they are so cute along with all the other entries in the county fair that you see hanging on the walls. I believe Moda is coming out with a line of fabric called Sassy in January to use with the skirt pattern. Also, just as a side note, I do have some new charm packs available, Ruby being one that is fairly popular. You should go check it out. They are only $7.

Aprons

I just love a cute apron and when I saw this pattern I just had to have it. It was relatively easy to make...

Now I have several apron patterns and a book... and looking at more patterns....it's like Pandora's box was opened and now I have a bunch of fabric just for aprons and washed it all in the hopes that I will find sometime to make some more aprons. I have two started for the kids... which hopefully I will get done some time soon....

The black and white one I made for a friend. She helped me with a cooking demo and so I made her an apron to say thank you, since she would not let me reimburse her for the money she spent. She is a great person. Thanks Jeanne!!

The next one I made for myself, but I will probably give it away to someone for something and maybe make another.

In case you are wondering that is a lamp shade... I took one on and it looked horrible...

What do you think about aprons? They are fun and for me--- cooking and sewing combined? I am toying with the idea of making some pot holders... something else for the kitchen... and maybe some dish towels.... another item for the kitchen, both of which I need. We have been married 10 years and it seems like everything is falling apart... new bed, new towels, new pot holders, new dish rags and the list just goes on....

I am starting my Christmas list so that I do not have to stay-up till mid night making things at the last minute (high hopes, reality is I will probably be up till midnight) Have you made your Christmas list of project/gifts to make?

Baby Quilt

I found a very cute free pattern called O'Baby by 2 mod moms. So I decided to make it out of the Riley Blake Fabric I have. There are 2 of each block for a total of 12. The circles will have rickrack around them and there will be a ruffle around the whole quilt. I was going to put the link but for the life of me I can't find it. I will keep looking and when I do I will give you the link. I had enough fabric left to make a second quilt and I am thinking if I cut them in quarters I can make a drunkards path baby quilt. So as soon as I get done with this one then I will try my idea. Have a happy Wednesday.

BREAKING NEWS

This site has been interrupted...........not with a news flash or anything else earth shattering but with......canning!!! I did so many pears last week, I don't care if I see another one for a very long time. The man of the house has done enough tomatoes to keep us for a good long time. I should be able to get back to sewing soon and I do plan on another giveaway. I need to mail 2 packages and I am behind 4 baby quilts and a wedding quilt and I sure would like to read a few blogs and see what every one is up to these days. One of the daughters is having a baby in the next couple of weeks and one of the daughter in laws is having a baby in December. Not to mention all the yard work that has been neglected. I guess I should put cleaning the spare room on there also, which got interrupted and I have never gotten back. So much to do and so little time to do it in. Hope things slow down soon.

Baby Quilt -- DONE!!!

I made three of these quilts awhile ago-- one pink, one green and one blue. Here is the blue and green ones done!!!! Mom/Jeanette has quilted all three I just need to get on the ball and get the third pink one done. I think I might make one in yellow... when I find the time.

The green one went to a co-worker who had their first baby (a boy) and the second went to a college friend who had their first baby (in New Zealand) a boy on the same day 7 years later after my daughter. Crazy. It cost more to ship the blanket than to make it.... Hope both of them like it. The both have Minkie on the back-- so very soft-- perfect for a baby.

Once again... in a hurry to get something done. This was for a friends son's wedding which I had known about at least two months in advance... but of course two weeks before the wedding I am scrambling, trying to figure out what to do. I thought maybe a gift card and then I thought better, these are good friends, you had better make something and I remembered they had mention wanting a jean quilt...

so I thought great, I have lots of jeans and we can do this... now how do I get this done with work and kids in two weeks.. so we made it the easy way....

10 inch square blocks with fleece on the back and batting in the middle and here it have it... after many late nights... it turned out nice and they said they liked it....

Astor Manor Table Runner

This project is made with the Aster Manor Fabric. It is so nice in person. I am going to have to work on taking pictures. Usually, I am in a hurry to get the project done that I either forget or I hurry and snap the picture, wrap it and then give it away. I need to get them done sooner so I have time to take a nice picture for everyone.

Anyway this is a table runner-- double sided-- and I wanted to keep it. I made it for a friend for her birthday. Usually, I make their favorite cake or cookie or something, but this time, I wanted to be a true friend. She is working on losing weights, so I thought a treat would not be appropriate. She loved it!! Score one for me!

I have been working on little projects here and there and so with my Mother's permission I am going to post periodically on the inchworm blog.

My daughter has been getting some help with her reading this summer. To say thank you we made this little book keeper/kindle holder. It turned out cute and I might just make another. Extremely easy. We used the objects of desire from Moda by Sandy Garvis for the fabric and some Riley Blake... just whatever we had. My daughter is extremely happy with it.

Here are more pictures from the county fair. The first two bargello quilts were done by a friend of mine, she makes tons of quilts. She makes the cuteist "dirt" quilt, it is a quilt with a waterproof back so that kids can take it out to play or you can sit on it and not have the moist ground soak up. Wish I had a picture to show you they are great and she sells them for only $35 at baazars. I even took some pictures of the sewing exhibit but I accidentally deleted them off my camera so I don't have any to show. A co-workers daughter who is nine made one of those sassy skirts, that I was makeing for my grandkids,and she took best of show. It was so cute and she did an excellent job.I enjoyed the flowers exhibits and the photos in the art exhibit. The weather was cooler than usual so it was nice just to be able to walk around and see all the entries and the ribbons. Hope you enjoy some of these quilts, I have more but I will leave them for another post.

New Shelves and floor

For the last 2 weeks the contents of my sewing room has been in the living room and the spare bedroom. I have been putting down a new floor. Yesterday my husband and son-in-law put these shelves up, so I have a place for my fabric. Now I just have to get everything put back in the room, as you can see I have started but I have a long ways to go. I don't even know if I can get it all back in, I may have to go through my stash and give some of it away. I don't know if anyone would want some of my stash, some of it may be wal-mart. Well stay tuned you may benefit from my overflowing sewing room.

Barb and I went to one of the local quilt stores while she was here and I found two very cute patterns for bags. I want to make this side pac sack by galloping pony studios. It looks really easy and is so cute. I have a thing for buying patterns for bags and then I never do them but I am going to do this one, really I am.

Well we got back home on Sunday night. It sure was a long and emotional week. The funeral was nice and the weather was excellent and we saw people we hadn't seen in many many years. But I feel like Dorthy in the wizard of oz "There is no place like home".

I have the following baby quilt on my frame to be quilted. It is one my daughter in law made out of Fandango fabric from Moda. But wouldn't you know it, it isn't going to get done any time soon. I pulled my left shoulder pulling weeds yesterday and can't lift my arm much higher than my waist. It wasn't that bad this morning but has gotten worse as the day has progressed. Oh well the quit isn't going anywhere.

Busy Busy Busy!

Not much sewing going on at this house right now. It seems that one thing after another has come up. I did get a baby quilt bound but forgot to take a photo before I gave it away. We have been canning and freezing (not me, food, but it has been cooler this year). We have another funeral to attend, my husbands dad passed away. It is sad but now he is released from that old broken down body. We know he has joined his parents and is happy now. If you can give your parents a hug and tell them you love them while you can. Life is to short to waste.

Okay, I have been slacking, I should have chosen a winner last weekend but I got busy with getting ready for company and having company. This time of the year is so hard to get on the computer because there is so much that needs to be done outside. Weeds, flowers, vegtables, weeds and painting and did I mention weeds. I finally finished painting the front porch this morning while it was cool outside. It could use another coat but we will see if I have the energy to do another one. I also bought 2 boxes of apricots yesterday, and picked a 5 gallon bucket of cucumbers besides 2 bowls or raspberries waiting in the fridge. I think I am tired just thinking about all that work.

Well here is a picture of the items that I am going to put in the box for one lucky person, well maybe everyone has lost interest and doesn't want to know who wins ;). Great Weekend and Peacocks

Barb from bejeweled quilts, my sister dear, came to visit Friday and Saturday, we had a very good time, it has been 10 years since we were together. We decided we both were looking old but who looks older is debatable maybe it is Margaret ;), since she wasn't here for us to tease. We had fun playing with the grand kids, I shared since her boys are being really slow in getting married. I would put a picture of us on the blog but she threatened me with my life and I promised I wouldn't put one on here. We wanted to do a project but there just wasn't enough time for us to visit and play with kids and site see and sew. We went up to Grand Coulee Dam to the visitors center. I learned that it produces the most power in the United States and is the biggest dam in the US.

I just got this fabric in on Thursday and it is absolutely beautiful. There is an awesome pattern on the RJR site that I tried to load but was unsuccessful so just click here and it will take to you there. It is called Miladys Mural by Debbie Beaves.

Raspberries, Peas and Flowers

It is time to start picking raspberries, I think I just barely recovered from the strawberries. We have two kinds large ones which don't have a lot of flavor and the smaller ones which are very tasty.

This is our pea patch, the white you see is the top of a fence post. We have been utterly amazed at the peas, we never ever have had a patch like this.I think the Jolly Green Giant has been here. We are going to have to start picking and I won't be so impressed then.

These lily's are almost as tall as I am, not that I am very tall but for lily's they are tall for people I am short.

Sitting on my front porch this is the view of the garden across the front lawn. I love sitting out there in the evening as the sun is going down. Sundays are great because there is no guilt to be out weeding when it is so nice. It was a beautiful evening, about 70 degrees at 8:00pm. Everything is growing great after a cool late spring.

We haven't put much back into the room that we put the new floor in. It is all still in the living room. We still have trim and a few other things to do first but we need to get it done. Barb and hubby are coming to visit in a couple of weeks. We haven't seen each other in probably 10 years, maybe it hasn't been that long, I can't remember. Maybe she will remember.

July, Freedom, Giveaway

I borrowed this picture from another site. I like many of you appreciate the sacrifice that our service men have made to keep us free. Freedom isn't free and there are many families that have lost loved ones or had loved ones serve in the armed forces. I would like to say thank you, we support you and are forever grateful.

This is what we have been doing with out holiday weekend, besides grilling and watching fire works. We are putting a new floor down in our dining room which has just had subfloor for the last 8 years. We should get it done tomorrow and I am so excited. Our goal was to do one room at a time when we had funds. Seems like we always use the money somewhere else. So far we have carpeted the living room, put down 2 bathrooms and a laundry room but still have 3 bedrooms, the kitchen and a family room to go. We paid off our mortgage so now we should see more progress.

Come help me celebrate. I have been running this store since last July when my daughter decided that a new baby was the last straw and she couldn't do it ALL any more. More Quilt show quilts

This quilt took 3rd place. I didn't hear which one took 2and so I guess it will have to remain a mystery.

I just loved this quilt. Isn't it amazing.

The next two pictures are looking down the isle at more than one quilt.

This last quilt was hand pieced and hand quilted. It was a pale green which didn't show up well. But believe me it was beautiful.

Here is a picture of my booth at the quilt show. I took 89 pictures. The first place quilt was an applique that was hand quilted. It took the lady 1.5 years to complete. Beautiful work.

Strawberries, and more strawberries, and a GIVEAWAY

We picked strawberries again, this is going on the second full week of picking. My back and glutinous maximus are screaming in protest. This old gray mare ain't what she used to be. Sorry the giveaway isn't strawberries but they are goooooood.

I am doing a booth this weekend. The local quilt guild is having a quilt show this Friday and Saturday and I have been trying to get ready for it with a lot of major interruptions. We had lots of family for the weekend so nothing got done but we had lots of fun with the grandkids. Hubbys pickup broke down so we have been trying to find a solution, tomorrow maybe. Also, he would like a hair cut and I am the barber, it will have to wait till after the quilt show. Besides the strawberries. I just got a shipment in of books for the show.

I am so glad to see Friday roll around, by this time of the week I feel exhausted. It means I get a couple of days off (and I would do the dance if I had the energy) but they sure don't seem like they last very long. Some days retirement is way to far off.

Here is a picture of my Thursday evening project. One of my daughters made the quilt and gave it to me to put the borders on and then quilt it for her. I think that has been many months ago, not sure when because my memory doesn't go back that far. She is coming to visit Sunday so I thought I would finish it up. I put the border on last night and I am going to put it on the quilt frame tonight, it shouldn't take to long to do. (famous last words, I always kick my self when I say that because then for sure everything goes wrong and it takes twice as long) Wish me luck.

New Stuff, Weather, and Strawberries

I came home to a package on my door step that had 12 fabrics of Fandango by Kate Spain. I saw these mini assortments and couldn't resist ordering them just to see what they were. What a pleasant surprise to come home to. Go check it out, there is only 4 yards per bolt but there maybe something you can't do without.

I can't believe the weather, it rained again today and was only 62 degrees, this side of Washington never gets this much rain and isn't this cool in June. We are thinking that the west side fell into the ocean and now we are on the coast.

We have been picking strawberries since Friday and the rain was a welcome relief because I didn't have to go out a pick tonight. I spent my evening updating the store. I should have been cleaning house but oh well, it will be there tomorrow.

My Yard at Dusk

I was out walking in my yard at dusk and thought I would share a few photos. I just love our yard, there is still a lot of things we want to do to make it look nicer but it does feel good to see it when the grass is cut and the weeds pulled. It doesn't feel like June but it is nice outside. Our weather has been on the cool side but it has started to warm up and the flowers are finally starting to look pretty. The petunias still look a little scrawny but the columbine, sweet william and the phlox are looking good. I planted the dwarf alberta spruces last fall and they are doing pretty good, it will be a few years before they get to be four feet or so. At least they didn't winter kill like a lot of my roses did. Sad to say I am going to have to start over again with the roses but I just haven't had the heart to do it this year, maybe next year. They weren't even for sale in the stores when I was looking for them last month, maybe they are now but it sure seems like it is to late to be planting them for this year.

I am missing in action. The action called yard work. While we were gone our weeds grew and have needed drastic attention, so I have been doing a little here and there. I have also been getting things ready for a quilt show (picture of a pin cushion) coming up in a couple of weeks. Plus I quilted one of those baby quilts tonight and will try to get the other done tomorrow. Those tumbling blocks gave me an idea for a give away.

How about a bag of tumbling blocks?

There is enough blocks to make a 48' x78' quilt and I will include instructions. They are western fabrics, so all you cowboys sign up.

Baby Quilts

Daughter in law #1 made these two cute baby quilts. She gave them to me to quilt for her. The brown and blue one used fabric from Hooty Hoot for Riley Blake and the other was Fandango for Moda. I think she said she used 2 charm packs and a tumbler block template to make them. I think I got her started by giving her a charm pack a couple of years ago, and now my son is teasing that I created a monster. (well it isn't all my fault, he bought her a sewing machine) She is doing very well with her quilting especially for a beginner. I do love to share the passion of sewing and quilting with anyone that wants to learn.

We got home yesterday from our trip to Island Park, Idaho. The park ranger said it was the coldest Memorial Day in many many years. I believe him. It was probably in the 40's most of the time. We had rain, snow and more rain. The kids had a blast. We borrowed a cabin and 32 of us were there. the first picture is a picture of some of the wood work in the cabin. Doesn't look like I got to many inside cabin shots except of the grand kids. The next one is a cabin and a water wheel that some long dead pioneer built (forgot the name, sorry) and is now part of the park attractions. The last two pictures are of the cabin and notice the snow. Well there wasn't that much but that must have been what fell off the house earlier this year. You could see the ground most places. But is was beautiful to sit and watch the snow come down in the pines.We had crafts for the kids, bubbles, puzzles, games and when all else failed they went outside in the rain/snow and played. The guys and kids did a little fishing (no one caught anything till after everyone left). We did a little hiking and some went to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful (they thought they were going to get snowed in and not make it back to the cabin). We had a great time but I am thinking next year needs to be somewhere warm.

I have been extra busy this last week getting ready for a family reunion with the kids and grandkids,(so please forgive the lack of attention to the blog). There will be 33 of us with 16 kids under the age of 8. We are going to borrow a cabin in Island Park and spend a few days over the Memorial Day weekend. Grandma (me) has been given the job of activities for the kiddos. I am tired already and haven't even got there yet. Fabric Pens

I just got this promotional flyer from a distributor and thought it was so cool that I had to share it with the rest of you. It looks like you can mark on fabric with them and then when you iron the fabric the marks disappear. I think I am going to have to get me some and try them out.

My Current Project

This is my current project called "Pavers". I cut it out over New Years and have worked on it a little now and then when I wasn't busy with other pressing projects. Well I decided I wanted to give this to someone so now it has become a pressing project. Do you see how it works in my studio(aka sewing room, used to be spare bedroom, now to much stuff that no one can sleep in it even if they wanted to, and the dress form might scare someone in the middle of the night it has me a time or two) Sorry, off track, I did that a lot yesterday that is get off track. I would start one thing and see something else I had been meaning to do and off I would go until I remembered that I was originally working on something else. Well I did get a few things done but my intention was to finish this quilt yesterday. I still have the borders and then it will be ready for the quilt frame. I need to get it done by Memorial Day and maybe I can if I don't stray out side and start pulling weeds.

I had a doctors appointment today out of town about 2 hours away. I am so tired that I can hardly stay awake. I did a little shopping when I got done because there isn't very much shopping here where I live. WalMart is about the only place, most of the nice places have gone out of business. Our local quilt store is even going out of business, they are retiring. So there won't even be that option.

Well anyway I need to get back to what I was blogging about. I am going to add this LoveU panel in blue to the May Giveaway. Should I draw a name for each item or should I just draw one grand winner. Picture Quilt

This Quilt was made for Daughter #1's Sister-in-Law. It turned into quite the project (lots of work), but has a lot of meaning and Love sewn in. The hard part was getting a decent picture of the finished project... just did not seem like there was anyway to do it justice... sorry for the poor picture.

HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!! I know I have a great Mother, Grandmothers, Mother-in-Law, Aunt's, Sisters, Friends... who have touched my life for good.

Have any of you had the chance to use Fons & Porter Mechanical Fabric Pencil? I have and I love it, if I only could keep track of where it is. You can buy different colored leads and this one will come with white. The strong, ceramic 0.9 mm white lead is great on dark fabric and washes out with laundering or with the eraser. Ten white refill pencil leads included. I am adding that to the pot for the Mothers Day Giveaway.See the two previous posts for the May giveaway, a book and a bundle of Batik FQ. IS IT REALLY MAY?

It is cold and rainy outside after having sunshine for 2 days. It feels like April still. These flowers have been waiting to be planted and it is still to cold to plant them. I have some hanging baskets but I may not be able to put them out this year because of the wind.

My spring flowers are trying to bloom. Here are some pictures of the ones that have braved the cold wet weather.

The husband and a couple of the kids tore down the back deck that was about ready to fall down on Saturday. Sunday was nice but not near as nice as Saturday was. Here is a picture of the new baby in her blessing dress along with her brothers. They were not wanting to take any more pictures.

May Give Away

I have had a busy couple of weeks, it seems that I haven't been home much and I am tired. The weather is really nice today for a change. I have been playing with the grand kids today. My legs hurt, I feel like I have walked to China and back. Sitting at a desk all day doesn't do a body good.

My uncle died last Sunday and the funeral was Thursday. I live to far away and wasn't able to attend the funeral. He was the uncle that I knew the best and it is sad to lose another relative. Out of 10 kids, my mom and one of her sisters (who will be 100 in 2 years) are still around. Happy Mothers Day MOM and Aunt DD.

Baby Dress

This is my project for the night, a blessing dress for the newest granddaughter. I used texture magic from superior threads. It was so fun to use. I took the texture magic sheet and a piece of the fabric and sewed a one inch grid and then all I did was steam it and the texture magic shrank up giving it a pin tuck look. I did that step on Saturday and let it dry. Very easy. Tonight, I just cut out my pattern pieces and sewed the dress together. I used the Heirloom Baby ensemble by Annie with a few changes of my own. I still have the hand work to do and then it will be ready for Sunday.

Easter Sunday

I thought I would share a pin cushion that a friend gave me. When we did the pillow class last week she brought 2 pincushions and I just loved this one and asked her if she was going to give it to me for all my hard work. I was teasing but she is so kind she did give it to me and I love it. Thanks Karen.

I have read some wonderful blogs about Easter and watched some really awesome videos. I am not very good at writing what I feel but a song at church that we sang today says it all 'He is Risen". I am truly grateful for the sacrifice and the atonement of Jesus Christ. May each of you feel his love in your life today and always.

Pillows

At church we had about 10 sewing machines and that many people or more making pillows. We started at 7pm with 2 people and everyone else showed up gradually and we finished about 8:30. So I would say there were probably 16 pillows made. I think I walked a 100 miles helping everyone. This was a mostly beginner project and because everyone showed up at different times we weren't able to just tell the directions once. I think all in all everyone had fun, hopefully they learned something, and the pillows turned out so cute. Here are some pictures, I do have more but they have people in them and I don't want to post them without permission. Some people left before I could get a picture of their pillow.

BATIKS ARE IN. I just put 11 new batiks on the store site at bargain prices. I just love them. I would like to get some lighter ones next. I ordered them by the bundle so I don't even know what they look like till they get here. If you go to the store you can see them individually but the pictures don't do them justice. Pictures from my good camera won't load because the file is to big and I don't know how to change that, so I have to take them with my old camera which takes decent pictures but not great ones. Oh by the way every order in April over $25 gets a free pattern.

Here is my latest project. I made this little pillow from 8 charm squares from the Moda charm pack Grand Finale. We are going to do them at church on Tuesday to teach beginning sewers how to do a four patch.

Last but not least I need to announce the winner of the April giveaway. If you have forgotten, it was 5 fat quarters of Riley Blake fabrics. Block Lotto

Our local quilt store has a block lotto each month, a few of which I have won and put pictures on here. This is April's block. I thought it was pretty and wanted to share with the rest of you. They are tulips. Reminds me of spring, I love tulips, especially red ones. For this lotto everyone gets a different color for the flowers and when we take them in they pin them up till the drawing. It already looks like a lovely flower bed. I would really love to win this one but that is usually not my luck. What is the saying "If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all."

I tried to scan the pattern to share but the file was to large to load. I tried it two different ways with no success. If anyone knows how to do that, let me know. I will try again.

Is it Friday yet?

It is only Tuesday and I feel worn to a frazzal almost as bad as this quilt. My sisters put their first quilts on, so I decided to dig mine out from the top of the closet and take a picture. I was 12 when I started this quilt and I finished it when I was 19, the summer after my first year of college. I cut each octagon out by hand and strung them on a string. Each and everyone of those were hand sewn. Crazy to think of all the work I put into that quilt. It is pretty worn out and has seen better days.

I made another sassy skirt last night for a friend at work's daughter. I think I am hooked. They are fun, fun, fun. I have another one cut out for my 2yr old granddaughter.

Sassy Skirt

I have another grand daughter having a birthday and so I made another sassy skirt. This skirt will be perfect for her because she is the sassist little 4 year old I know but very cute. They are so fun to make and so easy. I just love it.

I finally finished the blessing outfit for #2 daughters son who was born 5 weeks ago. I started it 7 weeks ago but wasn't real happy with the pattern, so I modified it and finished it yesterday. Yea, it feels like a burden was lifted,now I just have to make a dress for the other baby and maybe two more sassy skirts for birthdays and then I may be able to get back to quilting.

April is here and the warmer weather looks like it may be coming. Maybe it is spring after all. I love it, I do, I do.

I made that sassy skirt for my granddaughter and forgot to take a picture. I asked my daughter to take one of her wearing it and post it for us to see. I can't wait, it turned out so cute.

NEW FABRIC

It may not be snowing but it feels like Christmas. I just received 5 bolts of Riley Blake fabrics. They are so cute and I think they may make that little sassy skirt in the previous blog. They are out of my comfort zone but I just couldn't resist. Maybe it will help me start feeling better. I thought I was over whatever I had, it must have come back or I have something else now. It seems to be a nasty head cold.

What to do with my weekend?

I am excited for Monday to come. I have new fabric coming and it is so springy, I can hardly wait. It is from Riley Blake and if you haven't seen their fabric you will have to go look or wait till it gets here, it is awesome.

I was trying to decide what I should work on this weekend. I really need to do some spring work in the flower beds. I just want to cry, I think I may have lost the 2 new roses that I planted last year. They were so pretty and smelled so good but the winter wasn't nice. It is hard to get up the desire to do anything when they just die. I also have two blessing outfits that I need to get done. I want to finish the paver quilt that I started in January, so many things come up that I need to do. I would really like to make the following skirt for one of my granddaughters birthday. I guess I will see how I feel in the morning.
